NJPW/ROH Honor Rising 26 & 27/02/17 Review

DAY ONE

The relationship between NJPW and ROH created a great two day show with some of the best talent in the world putting on outstanding performances.

The first day was all tag team matches that saw a title defence, a show stealing performance and maybe some problems brewing between certain members of The Bullet Club.

David Finlay, Juice Robinson and Kushida defeat World Class Tag Team(Gedo & Jado) and Silas Young

The ‘Last Real Man of Pro Wrestling’ Silas Young made his debut in Japan. While he seems to of gained support with Gedo and Jedo both wearing ‘Real Men’ T-shirts and claiming they are Real Men as well, it was not a great start as they were defeated by the very impressive team of Juice, Finlay and Kushida. For me Juice Robinson like many others seems to of thrived since he left WWE and every time I see him wrestle he is improving massively. Finlay is with out a doubt one of the best young wrestlers in the world and with the legacy he has behind him I can see him being a bigger star than his father . Then Kushida never fails to impress and together this team was able to over come the three ‘ Real Men’.

NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Title Match

Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, EVIL & SANADA) defeat Delirious, Jushin Thunder Liger and Tiger Mask

Los Ingobernables De Japon’s domination continued as they were without doubt the most dominant faction over the two days and the Six Man Tag Titles never really looked like changing hands as Bushi, Evil and Sanada retained after a fierce battle against three top class opponents.

CHAOS (Hirooki Goto, Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay & YOSHI-HASHI) defeat BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale,Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa & Yujiro Takahashi)

Day One was not the best for most Bullet Club members and this match was the start of the bad day. It was never going to be an easy task for Bullet Club members Bad Luck Fale, The Gorillas Of Destiny and Yurijo Takahashi as they had to try and defeat Chaos members Yoshi-Hashi, Will Ospreay, the Never Openweight Champion Hirooki Goto and the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada. This Chaos team proved to be to good for this Bullet Club team, Ospreay was amazing as always and both Champions proved why they hold the gold as for me they were the difference makers in this one.

War machine defeat Young Bucks

This was with out doubt the best match of day one but it was another loss for the Bullet Club with War Machine going over The Young Bucks. It may seem to most that War Machine could snap the Bucks like twigs but the smaller duo of Nick and Matt Jackson were able to push the larger War Machine members to their limit and it did seem that they would defeat them but it was the impressive agility of War Machine that became the deciding factor in this one and this duo who seem really at home in Japan move one step closer to a title shot.

Los Ingobernables De Japon (Hiromu Takahashi and Tetsuya Naito) and Punisher Martinez defeated Dalton Castle, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Rysuke Taguchi

It was very entertaining seeing Taguchi and Tanahashi dressed up as Dalton Caslte’s ‘Boys’ and they played their roles with the perfect amount of comedy. But the fun did not last long, every time I see Naito in the ring I think ‘World Champion’ and it can’t be much longer before he is considered as a viable contender again. But as impressive as Naito and the Ticking Time Bomb have been they were over shadowed in this one by their partner, Punisher Martinez. Martinez seems like a generic tall wrestler that uses power moves and is very awkward but this is not the case for him. He is so agile and while he still uses lots of high impact moves he is also very comfortable flying over the top rope and of the top rope. He dominated when he got in the ring but he was another that fell victim to the mind games of Naito who had been playing with Martinez all match by refusing to tag him in and then when Martinez finally tagged himself in and completely destroyed his opponents Naito tagged himself in and picked up the scraps.

Katsuyori Shibata and Jay Lethal defeated Bullet Club (Hangman Page and Cody)

Another loss here for Bullet Club against two of the best wrestlers in the world today. Page and Cody made a very good team and came very close to victory but with one Lethal Injection on Page it was all over.

Bullet Club (Kenny Omega and Adam Cole) defeat The Briscoes

Finally a win for the Bullet Club and a much needed one after not winning all night after their return to NJPW and it was the team of The Cleaner Kenny Omega and ROH World Champion Adam Cole who defeated the greatest team in ROH history. The hard fought victory over The Briscoes was not the story here as it seems there may be some dissension in the ranks of The Bullet Club but that is not surprising considering some of the ‘Alpha Males’ within the group with many questioning who is the leader ? Is it Omega ? Or Cole ? Or maybe now it’s Cody ? But on this night it seemed Adam Cole took objection to Omega saying he is the best Wrestler in NJPW since now Cole is a regular in Japan it did not sit well with the Greatest World Champion Today and the two left without really settling the issue.

DAY TWO

Jado & Silas Young defeated David Finlay and Kushida

I have always been impressed with Silas Young he is a name that rarely gets mentioned when thinking of someone who could make it on the big stage and this show could be the start of the journey for the Real Man to get what he deserves. He has his character performance down, he is technically very good and he is naturally a great heel. Jado is more of a comedy act and there is nothing wrong with having more fun in Wrestling it seems there is less and less these days. While Finlay and Kushida were just as impressive as they were in day one it seemed that on Day Two Silas would not be denied his first victory in Japan.

Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, EVIL, Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA & Tetsuya Naito) defeated Dalton Castle, Delirious, Jushin Thunder Liger, Ryusuke Taguchi & Tiger Mask IV.

This five man team was so impressive the way they all worked together like one was the ultimate factor that gained them victory in this contest against five very impressive talents. It did seem that Ryusuke Taguchi gained some momentum over the Ticking Time Bomb Hiromu Takahashi with their clash for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship coming up soon.

War Machine (Hanson & Raymond Rowe) defeated Guerrillas Of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Roa).

Another big win over another big team in NJPW for War Machine and now it’s not a matter of if but when they get their title shot for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship

BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale, Hangman Page & Yujiro Takahashi) defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi, Jay Lethal & Juice Robinson.

The most shocking moment came in this match with Hangman Page picking up the win after he was able to score a pin fall on Jay Lethal. This can was a huge moment for Page who has improved immensely since joining the Bullet Club I see this being a big year for Hangman Page.

NEVER Openweight Championship
Hirooki Goto defeated Punisher Martinez.

Another impressive performance from Punisher Martinez who dominated 99% of this match with Goto hitting his finisher after taking insane amounts of punishment and getting the pin. The look Goto gave Martinez after the match told you everything and it seems that after this performance Punishment Martinez will be a regular in Japan with a rematch against Goto being the big factor in the decision to bring him back and the fact he was so dam impressive.

ROH World Championship

Adam Cole defeated YOSHI-HASHI.

It is not an argument and it’s not questionable or debatable any longer Adam Cole ‘BAY BAY’ is the Best World Champion Today. No one has defended the belt against the list of top performers that he has, his in ring ability is amazing, he has a ton of something that can not be taught or bought ‘Charisma’ and the fact he defends his World Title in multiple countries is more than enough reason for him to be called the best. The defence of his title against a very credible challenger in Yoshi-Hashi who came so close to becoming the new ROH Champion proved yet again why he is The Man.

BULLET CLUB (Cody, Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) defeated Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay & The Briscoes (Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe).

Talk about a well oiled Machine, The Elite proved why they are called just that from this performance and even after an amazing performance from Ospreay who was the target of most of the punishment as he was the least experienced of his team and it did show in this match after he took one to many risks and he paid for it when Cody caught him and hit him with Cross Rhodes for the win. The Second day was a much better day for The Bullet Club with Victories all round proving that they are indeed The Elite in Pro Wrestling.
