REV PRO EPIC ENCOUNTERS 2017: A great day with Nandos, The Elite, The Ticking Time Bomb and Josh Fucking Bodom BRO !!!!

meandtheelite

Hours before this show had even begun we had the unbelievable pleasure of meeting The Elite (Kenny Omega, Nick Jackson and Matt Jackson) not only at the scheduled meet and greet but we also met them about an hour before that. Every show we attend at The York Hall in Bethnal Green we have a tradition of going for a Pre-Show Cheeky Nandos. Well firstly as we walk in we see Hirooki Goto and Hiromu Takahashi at one table and as we are being seated in walks Marty Scurll and Chris Brookes. Of course we did not hassle any of them as we believe that this was their time off from work and they surely didn’t want fans rushing up to them asking for pictures whilst they are eating. So as we are tucking in to our Feast who should walk through the door but Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. Again we kept our cool whilst inside Marking The Fuck Out!!!! We did not go over or try to hassle them but they new we were fans with all three of us wearing Bullet Club tops. Instead they made their way over to our table and said hello and gave us each a Too Sweet . I thought that was pretty dam cool of them they didn’t have to do that but they did and it shows how much of a class act these three guys really are. During the meet and greet we met again and they were just as cool and we discussed how great Nandos really is. Meeting the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion The Ticking Time Bomb Hiromu Takahashi was a fantastic experience he is a really friendly guy and my next Mark out moment of the day came when he handed me the IWGP Junior Heavywieght Championship the people that have held that belt is a who’s who of wrestling and I got to hold it !!!!!!

So I guess I should really get on with reviewing the show but I had already had a day I would never forget before the show had even begun. But it was going to get so much better !!

RPW British Tag Team Championship

CCK (Chris Brookes & Travis Banks) Defeated Martin Stone & Sami Callahan

Every time I see CCK perform I am even more impressed with them. I think Travis Banks has been one of the best performers on the Indy Scene this year. As for his tag partner Brookes he is someone who I see big things for in the future. Their opponents, Callihan and Stone are looking better than ever and both teams put together a very exciting opening contest. After lots of stiff shots and near falls, CCK were able to hit their double team finisher on Martin Stone to retain the belts. After the match Stone apologised to Callihan and told the crowd that he wants to be back on top of British Wrestling were he belongs. As Callihan and Stone raised each other’s hands to show their appreciation for each other then out of the blue Callihan attacked Stone and told him that Stone is not they same man he once new and they are nothing alike one reason he gave was that whilst Sami walked out on WWE, Stone was fired. Then Callihan hit Stone with a Package Tombstone Pildriver and left Stone laying in the middle of the ring while he celebrated his actions.

Jay White Defeated Angelico

Two very highly rated and talented Wrestlers from two different parts of the world put together a very good performance. We did not get to see much high flying from Angelico as White was able to ground him and finally was able to lock in a Lion Tamer submission that gave Angelico no choice but to tap out.

Hirooki Goto Defeated Zack Gibson

I am pretty sure that nobody in British Wrestling gets such a great heel reaction than Gibson does (Maybe Ref Chris Roberts but no one else). As soon as The King Of Scouse Style grabbed the mic to do his usual intro he was greated by deafening boos from the majority of the audience. The match itself was superb and I think it was a contender for match of the night. But what was there not to love about this hard hitting back and forth contest that proved Gibson could be right in saying that one day he will be the UK’s number 1 and the World’s Number 1 after being able to stand toe to toe with one of the best on the Planet in Hirroki Goto. But when Gibson took a car stero from under the ring and went to hit Goto with it he was stopped by Goto’s CHAOS team mate Will Ospreay who grabbed the stero off of Gibson and the distraction gave Goto the perfect opportunity to finish off Gibson.

Hiromu Takahashi Defeated Marty Scurll

The Ticking Time Bomb versus The Villain, The IWGP Junior Heavywieght Champion versus The ROH World Television Champion. This match had two of the best wrestlers in the world today going one on one and the match these two put together was a work of art. The match started with Scurll whacking Takahashi with a sickening Umbrella shot to the side of the face of Takahashi the sound of the umbrella connecting with Takahashi reverberated throughout the York Hall and the crowd winced in unison at the vile action of The Villain. Straight after that Scurll took advantage and delivered more punishment to Takahashi in an attempt to finish the match quickly. The rest of the match was just so enjoyable to watch as a fan and the only problem was it had to end. Either man deserved the win but it was Takahashi who was able to pull out the win not before Marty had attempted to finish it with many attempts with his Cross Face Chicken Wing to make Takahashi submit. This was another match that is a contender for match of the night and only something really special could follow it.  The one thing I hope is that this is not the last time we get to see Takahashi in the UK not only is he a fantastic in ring performer but he is also a really friendly guy and if you ever get the chance to meet him you won’t regret it.

RPW British Crusierweight Championship Unification Match

Josh Bodom Defeated Will Ospreay

This was the match of the night and I will tell you why. The story heading in to the match was told perfectly with Bodom claiming he was the real champ as he is defending his title at every Rev Pro show whilst Ospreay is trying to make a name for himself in Japan (which he is doing a great job of. Being the Super J Cup winner is not to shabby now is it). Both had legitimate claims to being champion and then you throw in the nasty injury Ospreay recieved to his back after the show the Sunday before this show and it became a huge factor in this match that would help this become even more dramatic. Like I said the Injury to Ospreay was a massive part of this match and not only did Bodom attack the back of Will but the way Ospreay continually sold the injury with such great facial expressions made you feel so much sympathy for him and that is what a great baby face should do. Bodom though played the heel perfectly and together they stole the show with a fantastic Wrestling Match. The match built and built both telling a great story throughout and it was all ruined by that dastardly Scouser Zack Gibson who was looking to gain revenge on Ospreay for interfering in Gibson’s match with Goto. Gibson’s distraction and interfernce was the main reason that Josh Bodom was able to hit his finisher and walk out as the Undisputed RPW British Cruiserweight Champion and as he said “The Fucking Man!! BRO !!!”  He thanked Gibson for his assistance by spitting in his face obviously telling him he never needed or wanted his help and him helping only taints this victory. Then in great Heel style Bodom started mouthing off to some unhappy fans at ringside and one of those fans got his glasses ripped of his face and Bodom chucked them across the York Hall.  One problem after the last three matches was that only something really good could follow and I think it may of been to much for anyone as this was easily a 5 star match (not that I ever rate matches but I’m sure those who do would have to give it a 5).

NO DQ Match

James Castle Defeated Sha Samules

I am a big fan of Sha and Castle always puts on a great show. But for some reason this match just did not entertain me as much as I thought it would. I loved Sha Slapping ref Roberts and Sha Cutting Castle’s hair after the match was a nice touch but the majority of it was not as Extreme as I had imagined it would be and it seemed to end quite quick and the finish just seemed to come out of nowhere. Maybe it was because the show started very late and had run really long already and the three awesome matches that it had to follow may of been the reasons that this was not as good as it could of been in my opinion.

RPW British Heavyweight Championship

Zack Sabre Jr Defeated Kushida

Firstly I want to say that I believe that when any your main championship is on the line it should be the Main Event of your show. Second I think Sabre and Kushida are awesome but while 9 times out of 10 these two would put on a great match I felt this one was not as good as it could of been and now I’m glad it was not the main event as this was not main event worthy in my opinion. It was a slow match and with lots of repetitive moves that did little to help get me more invested in the match. The other reason I along with a lot of others got frustrated with this long winded match was they  had waited long enough to see the three people that most had come to see (The Elite). Finally ZSJ made Kushida tap out to end the contest.

The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) Defeated Ryan Smile,    Shane Strickland and Lio Rush

I was one of the unfortunate many that had to leave before the end of the match so I could catch my train  home. After talking to many disgruntled fans who also had to leave early I have to ask why after knowing that you are running late and people who paid money to see these three would have to leave to catch trains why put them on at the end ? I get they were the main draw for the show but many did not get to see it thanks to something that was the fault of the company. I am just so greatful that I got to meet them twice before the show so that softened the blow of not getting to see them compete live. I did watch the match back on RPW On Demand and it was a classic Elite six man tag match. A complete Spot fest and all six men were amazing. The stand out performer for me was Ryan Smile this guy has a bright future and I’m positive we will see him working for one of the top companies in the world.

A great day with Nandos, The Elite, The Ticking Time Bomb and Josh Fucking Bodom BRO !!!!

Just a shame the show ran late and many paying customers missed The Elite
