There is always room to have more fun in Pro Wrestling and I think some take it far to seriously but that can not be said for the very entertaining and gifted Chuck Mambo. If you ever get the chance to see him perform live then I guarantee you will be fully entertained and will have tons of fun. We got the chance to find out more about a gnarly wrestler and all round Fun Dude, Chuck Mambo
UWR: Where are you from ?
Mambo: I am from Newquay in Cornwall
UWR: How old are you ?
Mambo: 24 years of age
UWR: Were you a fan of pro wrestling growing up ?
Mambo: Growing up i was a mega wrestling fan! Before I’d even watched it actually because my big brother and his friends were talking about Rock vs Austin and somehow i decided The Rock was the best.
UWR: Where did you train to become a wrestler, how old were you and who trained you ?
Mambo: I actually trained a bit as a teenager at Pro Evw in Gloucester which is a super great school but i didnt really get there much because i was surfing most weekends but then when i came to London i trained at the Projo like 5 times a week for a few years !
It was the maddest! Training under Jimmy Havoc, Darrel Allen, Eddie Dennis and James Davis from the riots
it was saweeeeeeet
UWR: Who were some of your influences growing up ?
Mambo: Some of my influences growing up were Steve Irwin because he’s the man! And i loved how excited and fearless that man was!
Mick Foley because i loved the way he wouldn’t stay down, and also DUDE LOVE!
And also Steve-O from Jack Ass ! More recently Drake Younger did a few seminars in England and his wild positivity and great attitude and excitement about being able to be in the wrestling business has been a mega influence on me!
UWR: Are your family and friends supportive of your pro wrestling career ?
Mambo: My buds really love wrestling so they think its cool, also my dad has always been the man for it ! driving me places and supporting me with everything!
my old dear is never thrilled about it though, she saw my first match n hated it and said she’ll never watch again but she’s starting to accept it!
UWR: I’m sure like every wrestler you can remember your first match. So was it against, did it go well and what do you remember most about it ?
Mambo: My first match, i was mega lucky actually, id been at the projo for 6 months and they put on the first ENDVR in the Bedford in Balham its this mega sweet cabaret venue, a big round room with a balcony, such a sweet place for a first match! and i was against Pantera Negra, scratched the skin off my back but otherwise it was a super fun time!
UWR: For people who have never seen you perform can you describe your character and wrestling style ?
Mambo: If you’ve never seen me perform i guess ya should just know i am THE GNARLIEST WRESTLER IN THE WORLD !!!
My matches are all about having tons of fun! there’s sometimes some pretty funny stuff in there and usually i end up having to hit people really hard and use my body as a weapon for some mad dives ! (im also a mad fan of old school british technical wrestling so its super sweet when i get a chance to show that off!)
UWR: In your opinion what is the best match or feud you have ever had ?
Mambo: The best match i’ve ever had! – it could either be myself vs Paul Robinson at the Brixton Academy for Progress Wrestling , which was mad!!! it hurt like no mans business but it was a total intense blast of fun! and i’ll never forget it. Then another of my favourites was in Manchester with Progress and it was against Bubblegum! Who is soooooo great! and that was, everything felt good about that match! except for when he put the tape in my mouth and stomped my head into the mat, but yeah i loved that one!
UWR: In your opinion what is the best match you have ever seen ?
Mambo; Hmmm thats a toughie! This year at Attack Pro Wrestling Shay Purser took on Warren for the ATTACK 24/7 title and it was honestly one of the most exciting, make me scream and shout and jump around matches i can remember! Also when Jimmy Havoc had an open challenge and Prince Devitt answered i absolutely lost my mind for the entire match! Riddle vs Cobb at sss16 also blew my mind this year!!! aaaand, of course, Punk vs Cens at Money In The Bank ! I’ve made so many people watch that match ! its so great i think!
and Taker vs Michaels and Taker vs HHH, all of the Wrestlemania ones! AAAAH SO MUCH GREAT WRESTLING SO LITTLE TIME !!!
UWR: What is your proudest moment from your time in pro wrestling ?
Mambo: hmm… well getting to be part of the Progress show at the Brixton 02 Academy was definitely a peak!
dya know what also after a show one time Earl Black Jr said i make him wanna be a nicer guy! that made me feel pretty ace!!
UWR: Are there any wrestlers on the Indy scene you would like to wrestle that you have never wrestled before ?
Mambo: I would LOVE to wrestle Eddie Dennis! id also love to wrestle Zack Gibson!!! they’re two of the big ones on the list! also Rampage Brown and i happen to think me n Pastor William Eaver could have a bit of a barn burner at some point too! Another person i would really like to have a bit more time in the ring with is James Davis! Oh shoot! ya know id also love to wrestle TK Cooper he’s the man!
UWR: If you could choose any wrestler in history to have a match with who would it be ?
Mambo: STEVE BLACKMAN! The Lethal Weapon and the greatest of all time! Other all time wrestling matches id love would be Andre The Giant !!!!
And who wouldn’t of wanted to beat the streak!
UWR: Are there any other companies you would like to work for in the future ?
Mambo: I would love to get more involved with Futureshock , they’re a fantastic company and the short time ive had there has been sweet!
and im really happy im starting STARTING to dip my toes with Attack and Fight Club which are super cool to be a part of because they are just SO FUN!
Beyond that im kinda taking it as it comes!
i would love to be on DDT in Japan it looks the maddest and dya know what obviously i would love to work with the ol’ WWE but i’d MEGALOVE to be on Southpaw Regional Wrestling ! its the greatest! And who wouldn’t wanna take part in BOLA And the 16 Carrat tournament, anything working with PWG and wXw would be a real bucketlist shindig! AAAAH! And how could i forget! OTT ! they’re SMOOSHING IT! that would be the best! and but o’course ICW is big on m’to-do list.
UWR: What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a Pro Wrestler ?
Mambo: For anyone getting into wrestling just jump in with two feet !!!
get to know everyone ya can! in the ring, back stage, crewing ! and have fun with it! and be fun to be around and if ya have a weekend when ya not wrestling or training go to a new show or school and offer to help or drive or whatever!
wrestlers are the funnest people so yeah man! just have a blast! and contact everyone ya can!and be mega respectful too and personally, i dont mind how ya look but people seem to think you don’t need to be in great shape, but ya do! have wicked cardio! and be able to use all of ya body at high intensity for a long time!!
and make sure you’re strong enough to keep the people you are working with safe! (and have fun! 2 feet !! )
UWR: Where can people see you perform next ?
Mambo; The next time you can catch me in the ring will be Riptide in Brighton on the 17th beers bands and wrestling and that looks set to be a mega show!
im hosting a rock show somewhere in London i believe the next weekend Oh and FREEDOMS ROAD at the Dome in Tufnell Park on the 27th of this month. I don’t have m’calendar to hand but if ya follow me on the tweetshop or the book of faces , maybe even the gram-a-lam ya should be able to keep up as my bookings unfold!
